We are still a small company and our budget won’t run to one of the all singing all dancing printers that are around today. We’ve just developed a new product and need a whole load of flyers printed for a direct marketing campaign. Sure, you can get your flyers printed easily enough but we wanted the sharp focus and true colour that you get from the latest printers.

A friend, also a small business owner, said that he had managed to get his flyers printed on one of the new machines. His turnover is a bit higher than mine and he’s looking to lease one of the printers in the New Year. I asked him for the company’s details because he said that they also ran a managed printing service, meaning that they would print all the documents for you for a pre-agreed fee. A multifunction printer not only gives you the best quality for your printing requirements, it also acts as a fax machine, scanner and photocopier, which means you no longer need all that other equipment that is cluttering the office.

We made sure that we had as much information as possible on one side of the flyer, and on the other, our company logo and a picture and description of the new product. Our sales team were confident that if we targetted the right businesses and individual clients the sales drive would generate a substantial profit. I usually take these things lightly and don’t expect a substantial profit until it actually appears, that way we don’t start buying stuff for the business on the promise of a profit. I’ve seen too many businesses fail that way.

By the end of that day we had a completed flyer that both I and my sales team were pleased with. The next task was to contact the company and find out the cost for printing around a thousand flyers, with a subsequent order if the job was successful. I have to say that I was more than pleased with the service, and we did make a profit so I am going back to them for the next print job.
